Assistant Production Manager at Hostess Brands, LLC

Hostess Brands, LLC, is a large packaged food company focused on developing, manufacturing, marketing, selling and distributing fresh baked sweet goods in the United States such as Ding Dongs®, Ho Hos®, Donettes® and Fruit Pies, in addition to Twinkies®, CupCakes, Voortman’s Cookies and Wafers.

Job Overview

Night Shift 6pm-6am

Implements best practices and standards for product and process to promote efficient production of consistent quality bread roll or snack products. Manage production per Key Performance Indicators.

Responsibilities

  • Implement company standards for formulas, scaling weights, pan sizes, bag sizes, bake times, and all production control processes for bread, cake, and roll products.

  • Train, oversee, and critique production staff and overall bakery performance.

  • Supervise entire Production operation under the direction of the Production Manager.

  • Direct resources of plant and equipment toward the most efficient production of baked goods.

  • Coordinate with Quality Department to ensure compliance with uniform product standards.

  • Coordinate with Sanitation to ensure plants and equipment meet regulatory requirements for cleanliness and product safety.

  • Promote safety through work procedures, and employee safety programs.

  • Ensure that quality product is consistently provided to Sales on a timely basis.

  • Ensure that all union contractual obligations are fulfilled.

  • Coordinate and implement company policies and procedures in all areas.

Qualifications

  • High school degree or equivalent required

  • 5 years’ relevant management experience required

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred with an emphasis Degree in baking science or management a plus

  • More than 2 years’ experience as a Supervisor is preferred

  • Thorough understanding of commercial high-speed bakeries and production equipment along with the affiliated departments such as Sales and Marketing, Purchasing, Shipping.

  • Understands the functionality of ingredients with time and temperature in the baking process.
    Plans and coordinates use of manpower, ingredients, and equipment to ensure efficient production of consistent quality products.

  • Understands the unique equipment in a bakery production plant, along with operation of that equipment relative to the baking process. Ability to trouble shoot equipment to ensure optimum product quality is achieved.

  • Empowerment, Collaboration, Motivation, and Enthusiasm – effectively leads, coaches, trains, and motivates people to follow established standards.

  • Work Planning, Organization & Execution – Highly organized; ability to plan, direct & administer work efforts to accomplish objectives.

  • Effectively monitor performance of direct reports and provide feedback to improve performance.

  • Effective; ability to communicate both professionally and effectively with subordinates as well as with all levels of management and cross-functional teams.

  • Successfully coaches, trains, and follows up with people to ensure production goals are met. Flexible in approach to supporting the needs of employees.

  • Business Relationships – Skilled at building partnerships within the organization and coordinating with support departments.

  • Ability to effectively use and operate computer software programs such as MS Excel and Word and the ability to learn and use SAP.

  • Understands sales ordering, scheduling for efficiency, ingredient and product flow, and distribution.
