Proposal Writer at Leidos

Leidos is seeking a Proposal Writer with strong oral presentations and script writing experience to join the Civilian Health Solutions (CHS) Business Development team. The primary role is to support a small team including Capture Managers, Solution Architects, Program Managers, and Technical SMES to craft compelling and compliant content for proposals for Federal Health customers. You will research and write proposal sections such as executive summary, technical volume, management volume, past performance, and cost and resumes. As a secondary role, you will also support preparation of oral presentations with script writing, slide development, rehearsal coordination, and presentation support and setup.

This position is based in Reston with the possibility of some telework. Most writing tasks and the initial presentation development can be accomplished virtually, however during set-up and delivery, in-person support to the capture and proposal team is required in various locations, primarily Reston, VA and Gaithersburg, MD.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with Solution Architects and Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) to understand all aspects of IT, health mission, or service solutions and write, clear, compliant, and persuasive, proposal sections (technical approach, past performance, corporate experience, resumes, etc.)

  • Apply research and interviewing skills to gather needed information from internal and external personnel to support writing activities.

  • Work as part of a collaborative team to clearly articulate solution and strategy, approach to performing the work, incorporate win themes and discriminators and translate complex ideas into easily understandable text.

  • Effectively communicate with other proposal staff (e.g., editing, desktop publishing, production, graphics etc) to coordinate all areas of a proposal effort.

  • Participate in color reviews and assist with addressing all actionable comments and recommendations from the review teams.

  • Support the development of oral presentations by developing outline and structure of presentation.

  • Collaborate with the team to write a compelling, compliant, and tailored script for each presenter.

  • Coordinate with the team and graphic artists to create compelling PowerPoint and video production.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 8+ years of professional experience. Additional years of relevant experience (communications, proposal writing, technical writing, or presentation development) accepted in lieu of a degree

  • Experience preparing oral presentations and writing scripts.

  • Evidence of responsive, and persuasive writing

  • Attention to detail and ability to edit for consistency across multiple authors, and proofread for grammatical errors

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills within a professional environment

  • Excellent organizational and time management and task prioritization skills

  • Good judgement in decision-making

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Strong work ethic and desire to excel

  • Adherence to respect, decorum, professionalism, and teamwork at all times

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant experience in federal proposals

  • Experience supporting civilian health customers

  • Experience with public speaking and/or presentation development

  • Experience supporting FEDSIM proposals

Pay Range:

Pay Range $97,500.00 – $150,000.00 – $202,500.00

Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
