Job Description

Technical Writer at First Databank, Inc. 

First Databank (FDB) is currently seeking a Technical Writer in the Customer Success Department to develop and maintain external product documentation provided to FDB customers. As a technical writer responsibilities include to author and deliver customer announcements with changes to policy, products, data, or software that impact customers. Internal documentation responsibilities include developing work process and procedures tasks within the department or associated with project team. Works under direct supervision of a manager. 

This position will be based out of our office in Indianapolis, Indiana. 

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze documentation requests to determine required deliverables

  • Interview Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to gather content information

  • Review project requirements, technical specifications and other content from various sources to gather content information

  • Develop documentation content to meet project requirements.

  • Edit and test documentation to ensure reliable, accurate and relevant content appropriate for customer audience

  • Collaborate with SMEs to organize content reviews with multiple reviewers and mediate conflicting opinions on content meaning, if necessary. Verify approved content is ready to publish and release

  • Review and edit content after approval to maintain and keep current over time, as needed.

  • Develop customer announcements upon request. Includes developing content, organizing review of content and delivering announcement to customers

  • Develop and maintain assigned product documentation, working with SMEs to gather information and verify that content is accurate.

  • Write, organize review of and deliver customer announcements upon request.

  • Support internal documentation projects as directed by manager.

Required Skills:

  • Detail-oriented and have a strong ability to analyze business, functional and technical requirements and translate these into user friendly communications

  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, cross-functional collaboration, editing and communications skills with a professional demeanor, allowing the writer to interface and communicate (oral, written, presentations, training, etc) clearly and expertly with clinical and non-clinical personnel.

  • Self-starter capable of working through complex assignments by performing investigations into subject

  • Effective time management and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize and complete tasks correctly, thoroughly, efficiently, on-time and independently.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new applications/systems quickly

  • Prior experience writing about relational database information or software applications

Required Experience:

  • BA/BS in Technical Writing, Communications, English or comparable experience

  • Expected to have a minimum of 3 years technical writing experience

In accordance with applicable law, Hearst is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role if hired in Indianapolis, IN. The reasonable estimate, if hired in Indianapolis is $57,000-$70,000. Please note this information is specific to those hired in location. If this role is open to candidates outside of location, the salary range would be aligned to that specific location. A final decision on the successful candidate’s starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education.
