I am a specialist in disability inclusion all the way from Uganda and am very impressed with the ongoing work on disability awareness in Australia. It is encouraging to witness the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 in action, and the evident values that underpin them towards the empowerment of persons with disabilities. I've experienced, and been part of, the worthwhile impact of initiatives such as Disability Awareness Month and International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) so far, and I'm certain that these initiatives assist with stigma, creating an environment for inclusivity. In my work, I also see that Australia's Disability Strategy 2021-2031 addresses priority areas such as, accessible housing, health services and community participation. I am aware of the continuing need to cultural shift and inclusive practices. As an international advocate, I look forward to sharing my experience in disability advocacy in Uganda, and I am always keen to learn innovative practices from Australia to advance disability inclusion.
