Summary Description:
Provides guidance and direction to a team in the Maintenance department. Makes strategic and sound decisions pertaining to equipment maintenance, department safety, and department efficiency for team. Monitors maintenance activities of team related to production processes, controls systems, utilities, and overall plant facilities to maximize equipment uptime, plant efficiencies, product quality, safety, and cost control. Monitors completion of preventative maintenance, schedules and emergency equipment maintenance, and employee actions. Builds an effective employee team by engaging, mentoring, and developing direct reports.
At Leprino Foods, starting compensation for this role typically ranges between $91,000 and $109,000. This position has an annual target bonus of 10%.
Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities
Plans and schedules daily staffing needs to maximize labor efficiency and ensure production needs are met.
Leads and coaches team employees in Maintenance department by implementing programs in technical training, safety, quality, communications, performance recognition, and internal employee development in order to ensure peak employee engagement and productivity.
Builds and fosters strong working relationships, collaboration within their team, and a positive work environment.
Reinforces company and plant policies fairly and consistently.
Ensures team employees have completed all required training.
Responds to employee questions and concerns.
Supervises the daily shift activities to ensure minimal production downtime related to equipment failure, preventative maintenance, and planned maintenance.
Achieves scheduled preventative maintenance.
Prioritizes production equipment repair needs to minimize production downtime, while assuring safety and quality.
Implements plant safety programs to ensure compliance and a safe working environment.
Ensures work is accomplished in a safe manner and the workplace is free of safety hazards.
Provides employees with the training, equipment, and tools to be able to safely perform their jobs.
Leads and demonstrates safe practices.
Participates in safety investigations and corrective actions.
Leads and executes the department’s quality systems to achieve quality goals.
Oversees the sanitation program effectiveness to ensure food safety standards are met in the department.
Monitors team operations and makes recommendations for labor and manufacturing efficiencies, cost savings, and quality improvements.
Manages to the Maintenance department’s financial performance goals to assure that a quality product is provided at the least possible cost.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
3+ years of industrial maintenance experience in food manufacturing environment, additional education may substitute experience where applicable
1+ year of experience leading, mentoring, and/or delegating work to others
Proficient computer knowledge, with familiarity or ability to learn SAP or other manufacturing computer systems
Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial maintenance or related field or similar work experience in related industry
Dairy/Cheese manufacturing experience
Previous supervisory experience in manufacturing environment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities/Competencies:
Strong knowledge of reliability principles
Technical knowledge of industrial equipment maintenance and repair, and overall facility maintenance
Working knowledge of pumps, valves, motors, general construction, welding, electrical principles, programmable logic controls
Mechanical aptitude

Working Relationships:
This position reports to the Maintenance Department Manager.
Non-exempt (hourly) Maintenance Department employees report to the Maintenance Supervisor.
This position will regularly interact with other production and support group supervisors. Regular interaction with other plant management and Corporate Technical Services group.
