Job Description

This position is with Lifeguard Air Emergency Services new Advanced Life Support Team. Focus of this team is providing services within scope of practice to non-Critical or non- Specialty Care patients. Working environment may be airplane, helicopter or ground ambulance. Shifts will be 12 hour day time Saturday – Thursday. Employee will be required to pass DOT physical. Questions about this new service may be directed to Lifeguard@salud.unm.edu

Receive 17% Weekday Nights, 26% Weekend Nights and 15% Weekend Day shift differentials

Minimum Offer

$ 22.49/hr.

Position Summary:
Patient care protocols are delineated by the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Emergeny Medical Service Board. See Addendum for department-specific information. Ensures adherence to Hospital and Departmental Policies and Procedures. Patient care assignment may include; Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric Age Groups.

Detailed responsibilities:
* PATIENT CARE – Perform patient care assignments; triage emergency care; stabilize and/or prepare patient for transport; document all patent care activities
* ALS – Provide advanced life support to include oral/nasal endotracheal intubation, needle thoracostomy, needle/surgical cricothyroidotomy, introsseous catheter insertion, pericardiocentesis; perform 12-lead EKG’s and chemical blood glucose tests
* PATIENT CARE – Perform peripheral venous puncture, blood draws, and IV fluid therapy and drug administration
* CARDIAC – Provide cardiac monitoring; initiate or assist with cardioversion or defibrillation
* PATIENT CARE – Administer intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, topical application or sublingual administration of medications; provide for nebulized drug administration
* EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES – Monitor and stock supply areas; maintain equipment as appropriate
* MEETINGS – Attend education sessions, department and other meetings as appropriate
* CUSTOMER RELATIONS – Establish and maintain good rapport and effective working relationships with patients, visitors, physicians and Hospitals employees
* QUALITY – Participate in department quality programs
* ORIENTATION – Assist in orienting new employees as required
* RELATED WORK – Perform related duties and responsibilities as required
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 – Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 – Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 – Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 – Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 – Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don’t understand or may “not seem right”
* TRANSPORT – Operate ground ambulance for patient transport; comply with all Department of Transportation and New Mexico Emergency Medical Services regulations for operating a ground ambulance; operate program fleet support vehicles

Qualifications

Education:

* High School or GED Equivalent

Experience:
Essential:

2 years or a minimum 3000 hours Pre-Hospital 911 service, average 4-6 transports in 12-hour period working as a paramedic
Nonessential:
No preferred experience

Credentials:
Essential:
* CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers
* Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification
* Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic License
* Emergency Vehicle Operation Safety Training Cert w/in 60 day
* Valid New Mexico Driver’s License
* UNM Vehicle Operator’s Permit w/in 60 days
* PALS
* NRP w/in 6 months
Nonessential:
* Nationally Registered Paramedic License

Physical Conditions:
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

Maximum weight 225 pounds, ability to climb, squat, carry 30 pound bag, ability to lift 200 pound patient on backboard with one other person

 

Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Heavy Work.
