Job Description

Summary

The Senior Universal Banker is an experienced retail banking professional responsible for delivering exceptional client service, developing and expanding client relationships, supporting branch sales and operational objectives, and serving as a resource to other banking center team members. This position performs a combination of advanced teller transactions, account opening and servicing, client relationship development, and referral generation activities while assisting management with operational support and branch initiatives.

The Senior Universal Banker serves as a trusted advisor to clients by identifying financial needs, recommending appropriate banking solutions, mentoring less experienced team members, and promoting a culture of client service excellence. This position contributes to banking center success through leadership, operational accuracy, compliance, and relationship growth.

Specific Job Functions

  • CLIENT SERVICE & RELATIONSHIP DEVELOPMENT
    • Serve as a primary relationship contact for clients and deliver a high level of personalized service.
    • Conduct in-depth needs assessments and recommend appropriate banking products, services, and solutions.
    • Develop and maintain strong client relationships through proactive outreach and follow-up activities.
    • Open and service consumer deposit accounts, including checking, savings, certificates of deposit, individual retirement accounts, and related products.
    • Resolve complex client service issues and identify appropriate solutions.
    • Identify opportunities to deepen relationships and generate referrals to mortgage, business banking, treasury management, wealth management, and other business-line partners.
    • Educate clients on digital banking tools, self-service technologies, and alternative delivery channels.
    • Maintain confidentiality of client and Bank information.
  • TRANSACTION PROCESSING & BRANCH OPERATIONS
    • Process deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, transfers, official checks, and other financial transactions accurately and efficiently.
    • Assist with vault operations, ATM balancing, cash orders, cash shipments, and dual-control procedures.
    • Verify transaction documentation, signatures, endorsements, and identification in accordance with Bank policies.
    • Support daily branch operations, opening and closing procedures, and operational reviews.
    • Assist management with balancing issues, exception items, operational questions, and service concerns.
    • Serve as a resource to team members regarding policies, procedures, and product knowledge.
  • SALES & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
    • Support banking center deposit, referral, and relationship growth objectives.
    • Conduct outbound calls and client follow-up activities.
    • Participate in branch sales campaigns, client events, and community engagement initiatives.
    • Identify opportunities to expand existing relationships through cross-sell and referral activities.
    • Maintain current knowledge of Bank products, services, pricing, promotions, and competitive offerings.
  • OPERATIONS, COMPLIANCE & RISK MANAGEMENT
    • Ensure compliance with all Bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain strong knowledge of BSA/AML, OFAC, CIP, privacy, security, and fraud prevention requirements.
    • Identify and escalate suspicious activity, operational issues, and potential fraud concerns.
    • Complete all documentation accurately and maintain required records.
    • Assist with audit requests, compliance reviews, operational reviews, and examination support.
    • Promote a culture of risk awareness and compliance within the banking center.
  • TEAM LEADERSHIP & PROFESSIONALISM
    • Assist with onboarding and training new Universal Bankers and Tellers.
    • Demonstrate leadership through coaching, collaboration, accountability, and positive influence.
    • Support branch management in achieving operational and service goals.
    • Participate in branch meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.
    • Foster a positive team environment focused on exceptional client service.
    • Represent the Bank in a manner consistent with its mission, values, and service standards.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Four (4) years of retail banking and/or teller experience is required.
  • Strong customer service and relationship building; excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Proven sales and referral generation; identifies client needs and recommends solutions.
  • Knowledge of retail banking products; attention to detail; confidentiality; problem solving and decision making.
  • Handles multiple priorities with professionalism and discretion.
  • Microsoft Office and banking systems skills.
