Job Description

Content Marketing Manager (Contract, Full or Part-time) at Instrumental

Our mission is to drive manufacturing efficiencies through technology that empowers teams to build products better, faster, and with less waste. Brands like Bose, Cisco, and SolarEdge use our technology to optimize their manufacturing processes and deliver superior products in less time.

As a Content Marketing Manager, you’ll own execution of our SEO strategy – including auditing our current standing, implementing changes and fixes throughout our marketing properties, writing and publishing content that furthers our goals. You’ll develop a thorough understanding of Instrumental’s solution and the types of problems we solve for our target personas. You will write for a technical, executive audience – in order to be successful, our content needs to be engaging, informed, and to the point. We’re looking for a teammate with a strong understanding of pain points in hardware design or manufacturing. If you’re a previous engineer-turned-writer or have had deep touch-points within this industry in your marketing career, we’re excited to hear from you!

This is a contract position expected to be between 20 – 40 hours per week. We are open to both part-time or full-time candidates – please indicate your time availability in your application. This role also has some opportunity for contract-to-hire for candidates local to our HQ in Palo Alto, CA.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Write articles, social media posts, infographics, shoot videos, and any other experimental format to meet our users where they are.

  • Showcase our customers’ wins, including investigating and developing the story, partnering to have strong visuals (or creating them yourself), collaborating with customers through the approval process, and launching the result in multiple formats (case study, social posts, articles, press, email content, etc).

  • Convert existing blog content into easily digestible chapters within the Instrumental Build Better Handbook and write new knowledge-focused content for our executive readers.

  • Own active SEO management and improvement. Analyze website performance using SEO tools, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to increase organic search visibility and traffic.

  • Own measurement, reporting, and improvement strategy for all content-related metrics, including social profiles, website, downloads, emails, etc.

We’re Looking for Someone Who:

  • Has a proven track record of producing engaging content in a brand voice for an executive level, technical audience – you can distill the crux of a conversation from SMEs and make it engaging, even when you may not be an expert on the topic.

  • Is a proven SEO-native – you know the tools, you can separate vanity metrics from the ones that matter, and you know how to get results quickly.

  • Is self-motivated, dependable, and can drive a project forward without close supervision. Experience with Kanban project management tools (Trello, Jira) for collaborating on progress is a plus.

  • Thorough organizational skills – you can keep yourself on track, conduct your own research when needed, and find alignment when misalignment occurs.

  • A flair for numbers – you love getting creative, but like to have hard data to back up your decisions and guide your roadmap.

We’d Love to Chat if You Have:

  • Experience working within the manufacturing industry or writing engaging stories for a senior-level  technical audience (like cybersecurity, software development tooling, AI/ML, etc.)

  • Voracious curiosity – you want to know how things are made, why they’re made that way, and how they could be made better

We’re a growing team that consistently works collaboratively, is supportive of each other, and is highly energized by the opportunity for large impact. We actively work to promote an inclusive environment, valuing passion and the ability to learn. You’re encouraged to apply even if your experience doesn’t precisely match the job description!

The following is a representative hourly compensation range for this position: $40-60 / hr. Salary opportunity is evaluated through our interview process – we review the experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of each applicant.

All candidates must have an unrestricted right to work in the U.S.
