Instrumentation Technician at Martin Marietta Materials

General requirements:  Must be able to perform the following for all technical aspects of the job:

  • Able to read, understand and apply all schematics, drawings, technical publications, logic, etc. related to the job.

  • Understand and apply all aspects of the maintenance program (preventative and corrective maintenance, reporting, etc.)

  • Understand and apply warehouse procedures.

  • Understand and apply all administrative procedures related to the plant.

  • Maintain, repair, troubleshoot, install and replace all electronic, electrical, and mechanical equipment related to instrumentations and associated equipment.

  • Must be able to use all tools or systems required to perform work (personal computer, adjusting, calibrating, oscilloscopes, etc).

  • Must understand cement manufacturing process.

  • Requires knowledge of physics related to instrumentations.

Technical Systems: Work will be performed on, but will not be limited to, the following major systems:

  • Laboratory: Atomic Absorption, Balance, Press, X-Ray, Etc

  • Sampling System: Gamma Metric, Raw Mill Sampling, Etc.

  • Process Control. Software: Loops, Alarm, Interlock, Point Definitions, Group Start, Etc. Hardware: I/O Cards, same devices. Flow meter: Feeders, Impact Plate, Weight Devices, Load Cell, Strain Gate, Etc. Process Instrumentation: Gas Analyzer, Gas Sampling, Pressure Sensors, Temperature Sensors, Level Sensors, Vibrations Sensors, Actuator Sensors, Etc. Misc., Plant: Phone System, Intercom System, Halon System, Uninterruptable Power Supply, Etc.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, hand, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms at or above shoulder height, stand, walk, climb, or balance on stairs and ladders, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee will walk on uneven surfaces, including rocky, muddy, and snow covered/icy areas in the winter. The employee must sometimes lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Environmental Work Factors:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to extreme cold and heat and outside weather conditions, including uneven ground, mud, ice and snow. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and humid conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee works near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to electricity, loud noise and falling objects.

Other Experience Required:  Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
