ioby is hiring a junior engineer to play a central role in developing the next iteration of ioby.org. We’re rebuilding our application from the ground up, sunsetting a heavily customized Drupal e-commerce site and moving to a Node.js and Next.js application. In this role, you will develop new features, working closely with designers and product managers to research, design, and scope new products.
ioby is a nonprofit that works at the intersection of community organizing and civic tech. We mobilize residents with good ideas to become powerful civic leaders. Develop frontend interfaces with React and Next.js
Develop Node.js API integrations
Review code
Design and prototype new interfaces
Write epics and user stories, participate in sprint planning and other sprint rituals
Work with designers and product managers to conduct user research and develop business requirements
Participate in ioby staff-wide meetings, REI work, and events
Candidates must have the following qualifications:
Experience building components with React
Experience integrating a frontend application with a RESTful API endpoint
Experience with HTML/CSS
Willingness to learn how to communicate with internal and external stakeholders to determine business requirements
Willingness to learn communicating technical direction with both technical and non-technical staff
Excited to participate in ioby’s ongoing work of continuously improving our commitment to racial equity and justice

Experience with Next.js or other React frameworks
Familiarity with agile and scrum product development practices

This is a full-time, salaried position and includes a generous benefit package (including full coverage for health, vision, and dental; 27 vacation days; 10 sick days; at least 8 holidays; a 401(k); and an attractive “Whole Person” policy).
ioby sets salary bands in three regions.
Region 1 is for locations that are 80%-100% of the cost of living of New York or San Francisco.
Region 2 is for locations that are 36%-79% of the cost of living of New York or San Francisco; for employees in Region 2 we pay 85% of Region 1.
Region 3 is for locations that are less than 36% of the cost of living of New York or San Francisco; for employees in Region 3 we pay 75% of Region 1.
The salary range for this position in Region 1 is $63,150 – $66,300, Region 2 is $53,650 – $56,355, Region 3 is $47,350 – $49,725
