The Process Engineer provides process engineering support to production organizations to ensure excellence in Process Safety, Reliability, Margin/Energy Optimization, and Cost Management. The Process Engineer utilizes daily proactive monitoring and works closely with the business team to ensure production plan delivery.
Responsibilities:
Provide daily proactive technical monitoring and troubleshooting for assigned areas
Provide guidance around daily unit optimization as it relates to product yields and quality, catalyst life, equipment health, chemical usage, energy consumption, alarm management, emissions calculations, and economics
Unit mass balance monitoring conducted and documented routinely
Utilize Causal Learning methodology for problem solving and participate in investigations
Lead and participate in Process Safety Management work practices such as Management of Change and Process Hazard Analysis
Identify opportunities for margin and energy improvements and drive changes to capture these opportunities via established work processes
Provide process engineering support for turnaround (TA) planning and execution to ensure reliability and TA objectives are met
Provide support to capital projects to ensure proper implementation and performance when integrated into existing operating units and systems
Provide monthly technical assurance reporting to Motiva stakeholders
Provide “off hour” and “around the clock” shift coverage for planned unit shutdowns and unplanned unit upsets
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering
5-15 years of relevant process engineering experience
Strong organizational and planning skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Effective communication with all levels of matrixed organization
Effective teamwork in cross-functional situations
Good written and oral communication skills
Delivers quality results and a self-starter
Preferred Qualifications:
8-15 years of relevant process engineering experience
Previous experience in refining or ethylene steam cracker facility
Understanding of Process Operations
Physical Requirements:
Due to safety sensitive nature of job, must pass annual respirator fit testing
Move up to 40 pounds by lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise repositioning objects
Ability to reach all work areas in the plant (i.e. climb ladders, negotiate catwalks, handle heights to 50 feet, etc.)
Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, heeled boots, and hearing protection)
Other Requirements:
Must have legal authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the requirement of a work visa
Must currently hold or be able to qualify to receive a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card
