Job Description

Junior Engineer at epitel

Epitel empowers clinicians, patients, and caregivers who live with or care for neurological disorders. We’re a venture-backed company funded by top medtech VCs, physicians, hospitals, and strategics. We employ proprietary EEG wearables and powerful AI to create a new platform for brain diagnostics. Our system cuts the time to diagnose brain disorders from hours to minutes and solves critical care access issues. We’re building toward a continuous neurology care platform that will create novel biomarkers for neurological disorders. If you’re interested in a high-impact role at a neurology pioneer, this is it!

Role Mission: Epitel is looking for an ambitious Junior Engineer to join the R&D team in growing our AI algorithms for advanced brain monitoring. You will interact with real-world EEG data and help generate and drive novel data science analytics by applying basic engineering and computer science principles to create experimental and production algorithms.

The ideal candidate is a recent Biomedical Engineering or related engineering field graduate with core python competency.

We’re backed by NIH and highly specialized and respected health tech investors. If you want to build meaningful and novel brain monitoring algorithms at a fast-growing company building life-saving products, this is the role for you.

This role is remote based.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the entire algorithm R&D team to adapt and expand existing data science analytics software including statistical and visual analytics

  • Support advancement of algorithms in development and production, including signal processing, machine learning, and automated unit and system testing

  • Interact with and process EEG data from ongoing U44 Translational Neural Devices clinical research sites

  • Interact with the Quality team to support technical documentation

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Programming – Core competency in modern python programming (e.g., numpy, pandas, scipy, scikit-learn)

  • Version Control – Experience with version controlling code (e.g., git)

  • Signal Processing – Understanding of basic signal processing methods (e.g., filters, transformations, etc.)

  • Minimal Oversight – We are a small and growing company and this role will require one to work diligently without constant oversight

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference given to candidates with sensor and/or biological signal processing code-based experience (e.g., working with time-series data)

  • Preference given to candidates that have worked with bio/physiological sensor data

  • Preference given to candidates with data science visualization experience (e.g., matplotlib, seaborn, plotly, bokeh)

  • Preference given to candidates who have python unit test experience (e.g., pytest)

  • Preference given to candidates with project management experience using Atlassian products (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket)

Values

  • Act with integrity and assume good intent – We’re as proud of how we’re building as we are of what we’re building. We do the right thing, follow through, and look out for each other. If someone’s stuck, we reach out and help them grind. We’re a team.

  • Give a @ – We do what we do because we’re committed to the cause – working for the next patient, the next caregiver. We listen to patients, their families, their doctors, and build to their needs. We take ownership of that responsibility, our work, and we commit to the mission.

  • Debate ideas, not personalities – Everything we’ve done has been for a reason, but precedent does not equal best practice. We constantly challenge our own ideas while respecting our team’s contributions and competence.

  • Exceptional changemakers – We have to be exceptional – for patients, caregivers, and ourselves. We hold ourselves and each other to the highest standard. We step up to take ownership, leadership, and we follow through. We hire specialists who do the same.

  • Lean into the turn – Healthcare is in constant change. In turn, we constantly accept feedback and change with it. We’re flexible, agile, creative, and we lean into it.

  • Perpetual growth – When you’re creating the next frontier in diagnostics, nobody knows everything. We’re always looking for how we and the company can learn and grow together.

  • We’re serious about our work, not too serious about ourselves – We’re committed to the mission, but your life at work is not your entire life. We have families, friends, pets, hobbies. We want you to bring your whole self to the team and experience your whole self, outside of Epitel. That’s why we have regular get togethers, generous vacation, and flexible schedules. The best thing to do with your life is enjoy it.

  • No cloak, no dagger – We’re an open culture. Everybody has the full picture of what’s happening within Epitel. No silos.

Benefits

  • Salary based on experience in range of 45-60k USD

  • Equity – every employee shares in Epitel’s success

  • Professional development allowance – we do better when you do better

  • Medical/dental coverage – we pay 100% of premiums

  • Simple IRA contribution

  • Unlimited vacation – we also take typical US holidays + Pioneer Day (harkening to our Utah roots!)

  • Regular IRL meetings – remote work is convenient, but it’s important to get to know one another in-person. We organize time for us to all to be physically in the same place (as long as we’re all safe) every once in a while.
