WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Bankruptcy Associate is primarily responsible for effective case management and the resolution of complex issues to protect the company from loss related to customer accounts impacted by bankruptcy proceedings or discharge. This position may support any of the bankruptcy functions within the department, including Chapter 7, Chapter 13, Discharge, Chapter 11, and Chapter 12 accounts, for retail and lease accounts nationwide through multiple channels. The position will comply with internal policies and procedures when managing all accounts.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Manage assigned Chapter 7, Chapter 13, Discharge, and other bankruptcy accounts, queues, and workflows throughout the bankruptcy lifecycle by:
    • Reviewing and interpreting account data, petitions, plans, court orders, payment history, collateral status, customer intent, and supporting documents to determine appropriate treatment and follow-up.
    • Monitoring assigned queues, case milestones, court deadlines, docket activity, trustee or direct payments, account balances, claim activity, dismissals, discharges, and other case developments.
    • Preparing, processing, filing, tracking, amending, releasing, or updating reaffirmations, lease assumptions, proofs of claim, plan documents, notices, discharge documents, and related correspondence.
    • Researching and reconciling case and account information through approved internal and external systems while maintaining accurate, complete, and audit-ready documentation.
    • Completing or coordinating reaffirmation, surrender, repossession, title release, charge-off, return to regular servicing, account closure, Litigation referral, or other appropriate resolution based on HCA’s legal rights.
    • Applying bankruptcy communication restrictions, internal procedures, and quality standards to protect customers and reduce legal, compliance, financial, and collateral risk.
    • Identifying and escalating legal, compliance, payment, collateral, documentation, or system issues; performing account research or skip tracing; meeting productivity and service expectations; and supporting other bankruptcy functions and priorities.
  • Communicate with customers, attorneys, and other third parties regarding bankruptcy accounts through inbound and outbound calls and required follow-up.
  • Participate in coaching, training, quality reviews, and development activities; provide process knowledge, peer support, or guidance as requested.

Qualifications

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

  • 2-4 years finance or bankruptcy experience, with auto-finance related experience preferred.
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to multitask and independently manage their time daily to ensure productivity and goals are met.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and navigate internal systems.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the desire to create positive customer experiences.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with peers, customers, vendors, and internal partners.
  • Strong listening skills and ability to follow established procedures, direction, and coaching.
  • Proven track record with delivering seamless customer experiences.
  • Ability to thrive in a performance coaching environment.
