Job Description
Lead the team that keeps legends running.
Since 1833, Cooper-Bessemer, AJAX, and Superior engines and compressors have powered pipelines, power plants, and ships around the world. Today, Cooper Machinery Services supports more than 22,000 of those units, and every customer project that touches them needs a leader who can deliver.
That’s you. As Director, Project Management, you’ll own how Cooper plans and executes end-user projects. You’ll lead the project management team, set the standards they work to, and make sure our customers get what we promised, on time and on budget. If you want to build a function, not just run projects, this is the role.
What you will do
- Lead, develop, and motivate the project management team through every phase of a project: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and closing.
- Work with the business to build project charters that define scope, budget, deliverables, milestones, roles, and value.
- Standardize how we work, including stage/toll gate processes, lessons learned, project documentation, and reporting.
- Review project status, budgets, and schedules, and publish clear status and progress reports.
- Spot issues early, resolve them, and step in with project managers, line managers, and clients to protect quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
- Build relationships across the business and with strategic partners to get projects done.
- Prepare contract-required data items and compile material requirements and spares quantities from multiple sources.
- Help create the practices, templates, policies, and tools that mature Cooper’s project management capability.
- Manage team performance and complete performance reviews.
- Support dispute, negotiation, arbitration, or litigation efforts when needed.
Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of project management experience, including tracking and planning projects.
- 8+ years working with business stakeholders in a cross-functional matrix environment.
- 8+ years of experience across the full product lifecycle, with an understanding of the development lifecycle and the methodologies that support it.
- Experience supervising and directing people and resources to deliver results in limited timeframes.
- A clear understanding of how project management connects with other parts of the business.
- A track record of driving results and owning accountability for business needs.
- The ability to make decisions and set priorities across multiple projects at once.
- A leader who can influence up, across, and down, and who communicates clearly in writing, in conversation, and in front of a room.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, adaptability when priorities shift, and comfort with a range of software tools.
Preferred
- PMP certification
- SAP experience
