University of Maryland Capital Region Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join our Nursery team on a PRN basis in Largo, Maryland.
This is an exciting opportunity to provide high-quality care to newborns and their families as part of a growing obstetrics program. You’ll collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, APPs, and other members of the care team to support newborn care from initial assessment through discharge.
Our Nursery APPs are trained to support all aspects of the service, including inpatient newborn care and home call, providing both clinical variety and an opportunity to play an important role in the continued growth of our program.
Flexible PRN Opportunity
The PRN Nursery Nurse Practitioner will provide coverage based on the team’s scheduling needs and help ensure consistent coverage for our newborn patients and families.
PRN commitment includes:
- Minimum of two (2) clinical shifts per quarter, as scheduling allows
- Inpatient nursery coverage
- Participation in home call
- Training across all aspects of the Nursery service
What You’ll Do
Working collaboratively with the physician care team, you’ll provide comprehensive, family-centered care to newborns throughout their hospital stay.
Responsibilities include:
- Perform comprehensive newborn histories and physical examinations
- Participate in daily rounds and ongoing assessment of newborns
- Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory testing
- Develop initial diagnoses and treatment plans in collaboration with physicians
- Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive healthcare services
- Identify changes in clinical status and coordinate appropriate interventions
- Communicate effectively with attending physicians, nursing staff, consulting teams, and other members of the care team
- Educate and counsel parents and families regarding newborn health, feeding, development, safety, follow-up care, and other pertinent concerns
- Coordinate care and help ensure safe transitions from the hospital to home
- Perform newborn circumcisions when appropriately trained, credentialed, and privileged
- Perform additional procedures within the provider’s approved delineation of privileges

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and prior RN experience required
- Completion of an Acute Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner program
- Active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Nursing

At least one year of nursery or pediatric experience preferred
- BLS certification required
- NRP certification preferred
- Must successfully complete credentialing through the UM Capital Region Health Medical Staff Office
- Must meet applicable Maryland Board of Nursing standards and procedural protocols
Compensation is commensurate with clinical experience.
